A well-known plastic and reconstructive surgeon who catered to Bogotá’s wealthy elite has been formally charged in connection with the deaths of four patients and complications suffered by three other women after undergoing surgery at his clinic.
The physician, identified as Gabriel Fernando Cubillos Valencia, built a reputation through a high-end practice located in an affluent area of northern Bogotá, near the intersection of 94th Street and 21st Avenue. He promoted his services heavily on social media, offering surgical packages that reportedly cost up to 80 million Colombian pesos (roughly $19,000–$20,000 USD).
Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office and health authorities are now investigating Cubillos on potential charges including personal injury, fraud, and homicide. According to the doctor, the surgeons who actually performed the procedures in question have already been identified and questioned by investigators, suggesting he may not have personally carried out all the operations linked to the case.
The case has drawn significant public attention in Colombia, where cosmetic surgery is a booming industry often marketed to both domestic clients and medical tourists. The scrutiny now facing this clinic raises broader questions about oversight of private surgical facilities catering to affluent patients.
