A popular Mexican content creator was shot and killed over the weekend in what authorities suspect may be a targeted attack tied to material he had shared online.
The victim, identified as Ricardo Zúñiga, was gunned down on Saturday, August 29, while at a business in Tehuitzingo, a town in the Mixteca region of Puebla state, in central Mexico. According to preliminary reports, the attackers arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Mexican authorities have not yet identified or captured any suspects.
Following confirmation of his death, the press freedom organization Article 19 spoke out about the case, noting that Zúñiga had reportedly received threats after publishing certain photographs.
