An 82-year-old man has died following a violent altercation over a sunlounger on a beach near Athens, according to reports from Greek media outlets.
The clash broke out on Sunday at Vouliagmeni beach, a well-known coastal spot southeast of the Greek capital, when the older man reportedly got into an argument with a 76-year-old over a lounge chair he had set aside while waiting for companions to arrive. Witnesses told the newspaper Kathimerini that the confrontation quickly turned physical and pulled in bystanders, with shouting loud enough to be heard from across the beach.
During the struggle, the 82-year-old collapsed. Bystanders and medical responders reportedly performed CPR and used a defibrillator on him before he could be rushed to a hospital by ambulance, where he later died.
Local reports from the newspaper Ta Nea indicate that the younger man has since been arrested. A 21-year-old woman who was accompanying him was also detained by police but was later released; witnesses said she was left with visible bruising and a swollen, bloodied face.
