Closer to home, El Salvador will make its tournament debut on Friday, taking on Martinique, an island nation in the Caribbean that competes internationally despite being a French territory rather than an independent country.
Both competitions serve as important proving grounds for national teams, offering meaningful matches outside of World Cup qualifying cycles and helping shape international rankings. For Concacaf nations like El Salvador, strong performances can also translate into seeding advantages for future regional and global tournaments.
