Paramount Skydance announced Tuesday that it has finalized its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, marking the completion of one of the biggest media industry mergers ever recorded. The deal brings together two entertainment giants, combining Paramount’s film and television assets with Warner Bros. Discovery’s vast portfolio of studios, cable networks, and streaming properties.
The path to closing was anything but smooth. Paramount had to outmaneuver Netflix, which was also vying for control of Warner Bros. Discovery, in what became a fierce bidding contest watched closely across the entertainment industry. At the same time, the company navigated a series of regulatory obstacles, including antitrust lawsuits filed in the United States that threatened to derail the transaction entirely.
Along the way, Paramount reached a separate agreement with California regulators to secure their approval, and at one point even suggested it might relocate operations out of the state if local authorities failed to sign off on the merger. A federal trial challenging the deal had been scheduled for March, but the Department of Justice ultimately gave its approval, clearing the way for the companies to move forward.
With the merger now complete, the combined company becomes a major new force in Hollywood and global streaming, reshaping competition among media conglomerates. For the full story and additional details, read the original report from Reforma.
