Isaac Brizuela, known affectionately as ‘Conejito’ (Little Rabbit) by fans, spent ten years with Guadalajara’s Chivas, one of Mexico’s most storied soccer clubs, even though he never came up through its youth academy. Over his tenure, he won four league titles and became one of the squad’s most beloved figures, earning the kind of loyalty from supporters usually reserved for homegrown players.
But as his career wound down, playing time became scarce, and he eventually departed the team. For a while, many assumed Chivas’ front office had simply declined to renew his contract. Now, Brizuela is setting the record straight.
Speaking on the podcast ‘Puros Cuates,’ the veteran winger revealed that it was actually Argentine head coach Gabriel Milito who made the call to let him go. According to Brizuela, Milito personally informed him, soon after taking charge of the team, that there was no longer a place for him in his plans—effectively ending his decade-long stint with the Guadalajara club.
The revelation sheds new light on a transition that fans had long debated, shifting the narrative away from front-office politics and toward a coaching decision made directly by Milito himself.
