A murder trial has begun in Sydney for Beaumont Lamarre-Condon, 31, a former New South Wales police officer accused of fatally shooting his ex-boyfriend and that man’s new partner in February 2024. Lamarre-Condon has pleaded not guilty to two counts of domestic violence-related murder and one count of aggravated break-in.
Prosecutors told the court that Lamarre-Condon became obsessively fixated on his ex, 26-year-old TV presenter Jesse Baird, after their brief relationship ended in November 2023. They allege he stalked Baird, tampered with his car, and even faked having cancer to reestablish contact.
On the day of the killings, prosecutors say, Lamarre-Condon swapped to a prepaid “burner” phone, rented a car, and waited outside Baird’s home for three hours disguised as a delivery driver for an app-based food service. Using a key he’d previously obtained, he allegedly entered the house, shot Baird in the kitchen, and then killed Baird’s new boyfriend, 29-year-old flight attendant Luke Davies, in the bedroom as Davies tried to call for help — allegedly to eliminate him as a witness.
The men’s bodies were later found hidden inside surfboard bags roughly 200 kilometers (about 125 miles) from the crime scene. Lamarre-Condon turned himself in to police days later and was subsequently fired from the force. The trial, before a specially expanded 15-member jury, is expected to last three months.
