Authorities in Mexico State have laid out new details about the brutal killing of musician Jonathan Meléndez and members of his family, revealing that the attack was carefully premeditated rather than a spontaneous crime.
According to the state prosecutor’s office, investigators reconstructed the sequence of events leading up to the multiple homicide. Meléndez, known for his work with the band Camilo Séptimo, was killed alongside relatives in an attack officials are now describing as a coordinated operation.
Prosecutors say the plot began taking shape the day before the killings, when a suspect identified as Diego ‘N’ allegedly instructed another man, Gerardo ‘N’, to obtain materials that would later be used to restrain the victims. Mexican authorities commonly withhold suspects’ last names during ongoing investigations, referring to them only by a first name followed by ‘N.’
Officials have not yet publicly detailed the motive behind the attack, though the investigation continues as prosecutors piece together how the plan was carried out and who else may have been involved.
